Description

Ensuring the translation, revision and adaptation of all corporate material to be published and distributed to internal and external audiences, including Corporation staff, member institutions, Members of Parliament, stakeholder groups and the general public.

Editing documents written in French by Corporation staff and applying the style rules of the Corporation and the Government of Canada.

Providing advice and language assistance to clients of all levels, suggesting content improvements and explaining editorial changes and revisions as part of the provision of high-quality client service.

Reviewing translations submitted by freelancers and contractors to ensure highest linguistic accuracy and consistency in all corporate documents.

Doing English/French comparative review of content prior to submitting texts for publishing to ensure technical and linguistic quality.

Proofreading corporate publications at all stages of production and signing them off from the perspective of linguistic quality.

Evaluating the needs of clients; establishing work plans within prescribed and often tight deadlines as well as conflicting priorities; negotiating deadlines and details of delivery with clients.

Managing the workload of the translation team and coordinating with clients and freelancers to meet deadlines.

Researching, negotiating, maintaining and renewing linguistic contract agreements in accordance with industry standards and the allocated budget.

Maintaining translation tools and managing associated support contracts.

Liaising with representatives from linguistic services of government and private-sector organizations, or from federal and provincial terminology research boards to keep abreast of emerging linguistic trends related to the Corporation’s activities and mandate.

Maintaining and expanding the French terminology database/translation memory of the Corporation to contribute to the standardization of terminology within the Corporation while maintaining consistency with the terminology in use in international and national relevant sectors.
Responsibilities
-
A post-secondary education (degree or diploma) in translation combined with related professional experience.

At least 5, years’ experience as a translator-revisor, ideally within the financial or public sector.

Excellent interpersonal skills, maturity, tact and diplomacy.

Excellent organizational and project management skills.
-
In-depth knowledge of the techniques of language analysis and transfer as well as the techniques of parallel drafting and extensive knowledge of current Canadian French and English languages usage and conventions.

Familiar with financial, accounting, business, public affairs, human resources, web and social media practices and terminologies, the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation Act and By-laws and other related legislation, and with the issues related to the financial industry.

Full knowledge of the Corporation’s organization and operations and of the structure and needs of the various client departments.

High degree of problem-solving capability and initiative to undertake work autonomously with no guidance.

Must have
Language Requirements: PPP (bilingualism French & English, intermediate level)
Security Clearance: Eligibility to obtain a Secret level security clearance
