Description
As a Localization Project Manager you will manage the complete lifecycle (initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, closing) of complex, multifaceted translation and localization projects in support of NLG’s clients, business objectives and ongoing operations. You will work closely together with internal (NLG client teams) and external stakeholders (clients, but mostly suppliers) to ensure proper execution of projects maintaining and improving efficiency in all steps of the translation and localization workflow while at the same time ensuring compliance with the NLG standards, practices and policies. PM’s primary goal should be to deliver a high-quality final output which complies with the client’s requirements/ expectations and contributes to achieving excellence in client service.
Responsibilities:
- Manage localization projects from beginning to end, working closely with internal client team members (other PMs, AM, KAM), external suppliers and other internal departments (e.g. Supplier Services, Language Technology)
- Develop project plans and workflows, managing schedule, budget, resources and quality control
- Select and form supplier teams (e.g. translators, subject matter experts, DTP professionals and other experts) ensuring they have the qualifications, experience, expertise and skills that match project requirements and specifications, as outlined in the Translator Profile
- Understand client and project requirements and expectations, communicate them effectively to external suppliers (e.g. through written instructions) and ensure that those requirements are adhered throughout the project
- Allocate tasks to the external suppliers providing the required material, clear, complete, and correct instructions and the full context of the work to be performed
- Identify, compile and resolve project-related questions, issues or disagreements, whether deriving from internal stakeholders or external suppliers, by communicating those with the client in a timely and effective manner
- Report supplier performance in a timely manner and in accordance with NLG procedures (e.g. Job Feedback, Job Complaint)
- Monitor and ensure delivery attainment for all jobs assigned to external suppliers
- Design, schedule and carry out internal quality assurance (QA) and layout (SC) checks in accordance with client and project requirements/specifications
- Ensure project documents and data entries are complete, current, and stored appropriately in NLG’s Business Management System (Plunet)
- Excel in the use of CAT, QA and other production-related tools (e.g. Plunet, GTP)
- Maintain multilingual glossaries and project/product translation memories specific to the projects/client as applicable to offer optimal cost and time savings, and proper reusability of content
- Support the AM in the preparation of quotes (cost estimations) and manage different forms of client communication (e.g. via email, GTP, or web meetings) on the project level
- Effectively apply NLG’s processes and enforce project and quality standards
- Communicate effectively with all internal (team members) and external stakeholders (clients, suppliers) throughout NLG systems (like GTP) or Plunet Business Manager
- Make suggestions, recommendations and escalate to higher level managers issues that come up on the day-to-day job
- Collaborate with internal teams to initiate and implement procedural changes and customized workflows
- Be knowledgeable about clients’ industry, products and related aspects (trends, technology, common challenges, best practices, regulations, legal aspects)
Responsibilities
About You:
- Bachelor’s degree primarily in Translation or Linguistics, but also Biology, Chemistry, Informatics, Computer Engineering, or with equivalent experience
- Desired project management experience in the translation and localization industry or Master’s degree in a related field
- Desired experience in the use of CAT (SDL Trados Studio and/or memoQ) and QA tools (Verifika, QA Distiller, Xbench)
- Desired bi-lingual or international work experience
- Project management certification a plus
- Fluency in English (written and oral), skills in additional languages a plus
- PC literate with excellent MS Office skills; a strong ability to learn proprietary electronic office or other tools as necessary
- Well organized, detail and technology-oriented with proven problem-solving capabilities
